One SCADA for a 48 MW wind farm

Badamsha is Eni’s first wind farm in Kazakhstan, built through its subsidiary Arm Wind. For Phase 2, Faceplate SCADA runs the ten turbines and brings the substation, safety controllers, fire panels and CCTV into one system, monitored remotely from other cities and countries.

The site

Eni builds renewable projects in Kazakhstan through its subsidiary Arm Wind. Badamsha in the Aktobe region is its first wind farm in the country: 48 MW, about 195 GWh of clean energy a year.

What Faceplate runs

  • Ten wind turbines: active and reactive power and the other operating parameters
  • Security PLC over a fault-tolerant Siemens S7 connection
  • Substation PLC over IEC 60870-5-101, for monitoring and control of the substation
  • Fire alarm and extinguishing panels over Modbus TCP/IP
  • CCTV and telecom equipment
  • Remote monitoring from other cities and countries
  • Time synchronisation with an NTP server
  • Alarms, trends and archiving of every variable

Why it matters

One system replaces separate tools for turbines, substation and safety. Operators track the farm’s key indicators in real time, from anywhere, and act before a fault becomes an unplanned stop.
