07:50 · Electrified freight line · morning

Two dispatchers start the morning.

One sees trains. The other sees substations. Neither sees what happens when both meet.

Two trains, one feeding zone

Isometric model of a traction substation, transmission tower and a town

Capacity lives where two pictures overlap.

The train dispatcher knows where every train is, how heavy it is and when it will leave. The energy dispatcher knows which feeders are on, how loaded each transformer is and what is under repair.

Whether two heavy trains can accelerate in the same zone depends on both pictures at once. Today a phone call puts them together.

One morning, minute by minute.

Illustrative. Names and values are examples.
  1. 08:05

    Train 2107 leaves on time.

A heavy freight train enters the climb toward substation TP-4. Load on transformer T-1 rises as expected.

  2. 08:12

The AI alarm looks twelve minutes ahead.

Train 3411 is scheduled into the same feeding zone. With both accelerating, T-1 reaches 110 % at 08:24. The neighbouring substation cannot help: its transformer is under repair until 14:00.

  3. 08:12

    Three options, already checked.

Hold 3411 for seven minutes: the schedule allows it. Switch to the backup feed: a long section, more losses. Change the order of trains: little effect.

  4. 08:13

Both dispatchers see the same picture.

The energy dispatcher accepts option A; the train dispatcher sees the same recommendation on the train graph and agrees.

  5. 08:14

    Train 3411 waits.

Seven minutes at the signal. The contact-line voltage never drops below its 24 kV warning level.

  6. 08:40

The peak passes at 91 %.

No protection operated, no train stopped on the climb, and the delay was absorbed by the timetable before the next station.

Who was on shift.

On a railway the crew sits between two control rooms. The AI alarm forecasts transformer loading from the train schedule. The regime map shows every feeding zone twelve hours ahead. Catenary-voltage watch follows the contact line under acceleration. Archive chat answers questions about any substation’s history in plain language.

TP-4 transformer T-1 reaches 110 % in 12 min. Option A: hold 3411 for 7 min.

Contact line, Shu to Otar: 22.8 kV during acceleration of 3411, below the 24 kV warning level.
